what 20 people wore to the hayley williams concert
a roundup of thrifty and creative reader-submitted outfits đ¤
"Youâre one of my favorite writers â constantly thought provoking and inspiring. When so much fashion media makes me feel bad/lost in capitalism burnout, your work makes me feel good, curious and excited to be in the world." - Katie, paid reader
Concerts are fashion shows.
As the date for the Hayley Williams Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party show at the Fox approached, I started brainstorming my concert outfit. Itâs a fun exercise because you get to treat the artist/album as a creative prompt and interpret it for yourself and your style. Should I go full-on FRUiTS girl mode, as a subtle homage to âDream Girl in Shibuyaâ? Or maybe I should wear a sheer purple skirt to match Hayleyâs mesh/see-through tour looks? I changed five times before landing on this:
Itâs a little bit of everything, but I knew I wanted to make a statement with the tightsâand it worked! I got so many compliments on them. The shoes with the silver grommets just felt very punk, and complemented the sea of Doc Martens and Converse nicely.
Hereâs what 20 Molehill readers woreâmostly from Oakland, but other cities represented as well!
There were more submissions than I was able to include, but I appreciate everyone who took the time to submit an outfit. I will start a chat thread later today for anyone else who wants to share their HW/concert outfits more generally. Thank you <3
Denise, Oakland
âBeing a mom of a toddler means wearing an outfit that can take you from the Oakland Zoo in the morning to a Hayley Williams concert at night at the Fox on Motherâs Day. I wore my vintage racing jacket (doubles as a purse because it has 3 inside pockets), secondhand Dickies jorts from my younger brother, Noble jumpsuit, silver accessories, and my glasses to distract from the fact I didnât have time to do my makeup!â
Estefania, Oakland
âI wore the half black/half white virgin mini dress from Fashion Brand Company along with the matching blazer from FBC as well. Decided to wear this because of Hayley tour promo in it sheâs wearing the long version white virgin mini dress.â
Lisa, NYC
âI flew in solo from another city that afternoon and thrifted the green vintage slip hours later (I think it was destiny??), which I paired with a sheer newsprint shirt, a Loren Stewart safety pin necklace (that Hayley also has), and trusty Chelsea Docs platforms. I really wanted to emphasize the transparent vibes and bright pops of color I'd seen Hayley wear throughout the tour.â
Thea, Oakland
âI hand drew my outfit with lyrics from Ego Death but with a throwback to brand new eyes with the glasses. Thrifted dress.â
Mya, Los Angeles
âThis outfit is a âheart on my sleeveâ moment; All you need to know about me is encased in each selective piece. Itâs comfortable, chic and has a punk attitude about it; itâs black girl magic entering the cathartic Ego Death At a Bachelorette Party Tour.â
Juliet, Oakland
âMy friend and I drove up from Pasadena to see Hayley at the Fox on Sunday (resale was way cheaper than in LA). One of the crazier things Iâve done, and yet all was worth it to see and hear Hayley lay her heart bare, raw.
I thought more about this outfit than I usually do for a concert - her fits on this tour have been unbelievable. I splurged on my first Doen purchase, a sheer brown slip, and wore purple underneath (not really visible but both top and bottom were the color of jacaranda trees, the bottoms were a Molehill-influenced Oddobody purchase), and then of course a yellow clip in my hair and yellow purse from Ross, for our girl. I liked how my tattoos peeked through the sheer skirt. My dear friend wore a lil bridal veil, for our girl- this one is hard to explain to people who donât know the album haha.â
Maggie, Minneapolis
âThe details are inspired by the albumâs early-2000s girly nostalgia, DIY (for one of my favorite songs, Glum), and Hayleyâs insane eye for layering! I was so excited to pore over the thrift searching for things that were all new to me: light neutral tones, casual asymmetry, and clashing textures.â
Rowan, Oakland
âI thrifted this AllSaints dress the same day of the show and am obsessed with the color and printâpaired it with leather boots+ chunky silver accents and felt like I achieved the femme rock vibe I was feeling for Hayley. Also, sometimes tattoos are the best accessories ;)â
Annabel, Oakland
âI did not end up shaving my whole body just in case Hayley noticed me but I would say my cute lil fit made up for it. Top from Princess Polly, denim jacket from Zara, skirt from Walmart, and boots from Zara! For accessories I attached one of my broken bracelets to my skirt with some earring hoops. I also put HW inspired pins on that my friends made to give out during the show!!â
Keelie, Chicago
Sese, Oakland
âI was inspired by all the sheer and lace material Hayley has been wearing and this makeup took me about two hours.â
Meag, Austin
âUpcycled petals for armor shirt that I made into a drapes dress using sheer chiffon, and hand dyed lace. My prize ribbons were also made by me featuring some of my fav lyrics from the new album :)â
Violet, Phoenix
âI first originally got inspired by the whole âbachelorette partyâ vibe, and then after seeing what she was wearing to her shows I got inspired with the sheer layers and pops of color. I saw beautystudio say âHayleyâs version of bridal-core but slightly spiraling.â Which I LOVE! I decided on the pops of yellow as a homage to the album colors and thrifted a sheer top to show off the yellow bra and a bridal-esque mini skirt. I found some sheer white stocking socks and yellow ballet flats and had to finish it off with the yellow garter and the bridal veil to pull everything together. I loved my outfit and itâs now my most viewed fit check on tiktok!
Guppy, Oakland
âI made my top and shorts and rhinestoned them by hand myself! The colors I used were shades from the album cover, and the patterns I rhinestoned were callbacks to art from the singles she initially released!â
Mhy, Phoenix
âI went with what I already had in my closet. knowing phx weather, a tank top and skort were a must to stay cool and some boots to protect my toes while dancing!â
Sofia, Austin
âI went to Hayleyâs Austin show and wore the miss paramore baby tee that I got from the merch sale earlier in the day along with some high waisted dark denim jeans and black ankle boots I bought from goodwill the day before!! Middle school me always wanted to dress like the Haim sisters in the âWant You Backâ music video so I was happy to live out that dream to see Hayley.â
Sarah, Oakland
âI got too shy to take a photo at the venue, but I was inspired by the jorts of the âEgo Death at a Bachelorette Partyâ music video as well as all of the transparent/sheer pieces Hayley has been wearing for the shows. I liked how the aqua mesh top looked with the mauve triangle bra peeking through which is sort of a shout out to the song âZissouâ and another look Hayley did in the rollout.â
Sara, Chicago
âI thrifted this silk beaded dress for $9 and wore it with some Doc Martens and a thrifted belt. I was kind of nervous to wear it, but thought if I donât wear this dress to see Hayley Williams when will I ever wear it? So I did! And got lots of compliments.â
Rogan, Oakland
âThis outfit is a take on a bachelorette gone punk! She's hard, she's got combat boots on, but she still wants to look pretty. It's a black prom dress I covered in your standard scene kid Spencer's chic.â
Adrian, Nashville
âMiss Hayley Williams has been pulling my true-self out of me for a couple years now (Trust me â I WISH I had found her sooner!). The dress stopped me in my tracks (well, my scrolling), and I wanted to wear it in a place I knew I would be accepted for whatever I wore â and, that is a Hayley Williams concert. I channeled my inner-Brian for the makeup with yellow eyes/black liner, and I was stoked to see her makeup was the same combo that night Nashville N3!â
