For a long time, there was one bralette I loved to wear under all my silk slip dresses.

I’ve tried everything from strapless bras to nipple covers and I don’t like how they feel. Unless I’m the center of attention at an event and all eyes are on me, I much prefer wearing a light bralette underneath. I don’t mind a visible bra strap, as long as it’s cute.

Anyways, this magical bralette was 100% silk, lime green, with frilled edges. It didn’t scream BRA, and I liked how the frilled edges peeking out from the dress neckline made it look like part of the outfit rather than a fluke. And because I wear a lot of color anyways, I liked the bright green straps—it complemented my style.

It was from a one-woman brand called Soft & Wet, which sadly shut down earlier this year. And that bralette is now about four years ago, the elastic has stretched out, and it just doesn’t give me the same support or lift that it used to. I still have it, but it doesn’t serve its purpose well anymore.

So about a month ago, I embarked on what felt like an impossible hunt for a cute bralette to wear under my silk slip dresses.

My criteria:

  • 90% or more natural fiber composition (cotton or silk)

  • cut should be pretty inconspicuous, something that won’t show under a low cut neckline

  • no underwire or cup inserts

  • thin straps, ideally in a fun color, that doesn’t scream “BRA”

  • under $100

I am pleased to say that I finally found one that fits the bill! It’s a light beige-pink color with grass green straps, honestly a perfect color combo :)

As with all clothing recommendations, everyone has unique preferences for what they find comfortable and stylish—so I’m not gonna say that this is a wardrobe solution that works for every person. Maybe you don’t like visible straps, or maybe you prefer the support of an underwire. The sizing on this specific bralette runs from XS-4X.

It works really well for the kind of the dresses I wear. Below, I try it on under some of my most-worn silk slip silhouettes to demonstrate.

The Comme Si silk slip is probably my lowest/widest cut slip in terms of neckline. The green straps show, but again, it does not bother me because I like how it looks with the dress colors.

Here it is under a standard deep V neckline, on the Silk Laundry 90s slip dress.

Testing it under a loose silk dress (very old style from Heavy Manners) with deep arm holes that sometimes exposes side boobage. To me, this is as inconspicuous as it gets unless you’re going the nipple cover route. Like, I just want to feel supported and secure if I am wearing this out to a nice dinner, ya know? Suitable for normal life activities where your outfit isn’t being dissected or perceived by a lot of people.
