Love this attention to coat detail! I also appreciate how the extensive use of tweedy outerwear adds to the timeless feeling of the show, like the old cars. In modern snowy US towns there’s so much fleece and puffer coat.

absolutely, it would take me out of the show if Mark S wore a patagonia puffer lol. as a west coast gal the small snow town is very foreign to me but i love how immersive and real it feels onscreen!

I'm not even watching Severance, just wandered in for the post and 10/10 taste lol

the only contribution I have to this discourse is that Margaret Howell is what The Row should be, at those prices i.e. actually somewhat timeless pieces of excellent quality that aren't devoid of character, also v worth it secondhand.

(I once went to sleep (horizontal) on a train in a MH skirt - a linen-blend skirt, no less - and woke up only very gently rumpled, as if I'd actually spent the entire time genteelly seated and not using it as a standin for pyjamas)

Haven't even finished reading and I needed to scream about: "Unfortunately, the numbers are scary," re: a price. You are a genius. I love reading your writing!

LOL thank you so much! I think writing should be funny and not too serious ;)

Such good analysis - love the deep dive and also am restraining myself from buying that Eileen fisher - a dream!! I also noticed that Helana’s parking lot outfit has a well-tied scarf, and most of her outfits go to the neck (like you pointed out previously with Gemma’s mint fit). Interesting to think of Lumon control extending all the way to the neck and perhaps a reflection on modesty/purity or loyalty/obedience?

old eileen fisher is so high quality tbh. and YES that is such a great insight on the neckline as symbolism of control (esp of women) within the kier cult
