The collective excitement over the Goodnight Moon USPS stamps has been the highlight of my weekend. Friday was the official release day, and because I had a few packages to drop off at the post office anyways, I put on my best Goodnight Moon inspired outfit to see if I could buy a sheet in person (not yet, but they will arrive next week).

Goodnight Moon is an enduring intergenerational classic, so I am not surprised by the hype around the stamp release.

interviewed a USPS spokesperson who said that these stamps resonate with consumers right now because of “the nostalgic appeal.” I personally believe the appeal (especially for zillennials) can be attributed to three cultural factors:

  • Analog Communication: in a time when digital archives are easily manipulated/erased, letter-writing is one of the only ways to preserve the truth.

  • Hand-drawn Illustration: people hate AI slop, so the pendulum has swung towards a reverence for hand-drawn art. Brands have been capitalizing on this—I’ve been to several events in the past year where illustrators are hired as “entertainment” to draw you.

  • Sleep as Luxury: who is Sleeping Well these days??? We’re all anxious AF (rightfully so) about the state of the world and blasted with blue light from our phones. The colorful, yet low exposure world of Goodnight Moon reminds us of how sleep used to be. Easy, quiet, safe.

As I was admiring these pictures, I realized that I wanted to wear every sweet little object as a piece of jewelry.

So I went treasure hunting for vintage jewelry, Molehill-style. Every piece is based on something from the Goodnight Moon green room: combs, bunnies, moons, telephones, & more.

I came across several favorites that made my trinket-loving heart sing, but my most coveted discovery was a large silver moon pendant by a Mexican artist whose jewelry is now on the top of my wishlist for 2025.

It is the best batch since my Beatrix Potter jewelry roundup. And great timing for Mother’s Day as well! (This is the only “gift guide” I will do. From what I’ve heard, moms of the Molehill really just want a day at the spa/massage/pampering!).

Here’s a sneak peek of 38 pieces I found. Mostly 925 sterling silver, 14K gold, and around half are under $100.

If you love jewelry, you don’t wanna miss out on this one ;)

ok, count me in!
