The FW99 Prada Leaf Purse
1999.
The best year for Prada (and Miu Miu!).
I am updating my purse rotation for fall and remembered my most autumnal piece, a pink Prada shoulder bag with leaf appliques.
These bags are an literal tribute to autumn leaves. I get a rush of back to school nostalgia looking at them, thinking about my favorite pair of GAP corduroy pants in 4th grade with brown and red leaves printed on the fabric. I love the way the leaf appliques float on top of the bag between the metal punch holes, a salad of gingko, oak, maple. You can also find the matching leaf motif heels and boots from the FW99 collection on various resale sites.

The Missoni Sleeveless Knit
The sleeveless knit is the best base layer for transitional weather. Most of mine are secondhand Giu Giu, which I usually pair with relaxed jeans or high rise pants on lazy outfit days. The knit fabrication is dressier than a cotton t-shirt, but the lack of sleeves keeps it casual and layering-friendly.
I’ve been very drawn to the hazy zigzags of vintage Missoni. Prints and colors are extremely powerful. They bring up different memories and emotions for everyone. For me, I feel nostalgia once again…the way the colors are so muted and the zigzags are so blurry feels intentionally lo-fi. It looks like the linear grain of TV static before flatscreen TVs were the consumer standard, or how my Motorola Razr screen would glitch.
