I have a wide calf and almost gave up on knee high boots that fit. Thank you for making sure to include wide calf boots in this post, and clearly doing your research for the recommendations! I'm so excited to try one of these options for fall. Seriously, thank you ๐Ÿฅน

Boot season canโ€™t come soon enough!! I have the Maguire Lorca boots in brown and I love them. For reference for anyone considering: I am tall (5โ€™11) and they hit maybe 1.5-2 in below the knee, and are comfortable around my calf (15โ€ circ), not too tight or loose and maintain their shape with wear. I have purchased several pairs of Maguire shoes since I first bought winter boots from them in 2018. Always impressed with the quality and their customer service (aka answering my questions about sizing, as a 10.5 girlie).

I looked at their site and the review is 2/5 stars? Were they true to size for you?

Morgan's avatar

Yes, TTS! Short answer: I got a 41 which is my usual euro size and they fit comfortably with tights and thinner socks out of the box. Long answer: The leather did stretch a bit after a few wears which I expected/wanted. With thick socks they are still tight on my toes though, even with the square toe shape (I have wide toes and a narrow ankle which makes buying shoes very fun). I purchased my pair in Nov 2024 and it was right after they had re-stocked, so I wonder if they retooled between that review and my purchase. I am also on the high end of the size chart so the proportions could just be different. The two stars bums me out bc I find them to be well-made, comfortable boots!

Such a fun post! Frye boots were so popular on my campus but I haven't thought about them in forever. Have my eye on the Maguire Lorca Boot now ๐Ÿ‘€

i feel like future generations of college girls will always be re-discovering them!

I had a cobbler cut off a couple inches off the top of Acne Pistol knee high boots, was a good fix.

ha, I have had the LoQ Donna boots for like 6, 7 years and never wore them for the reasons you gave - the toe never hit me right. Felt too round, not enough oomph. Kinda felt like hooves. But their time has come!: I started wearing them this past winter and they're so damn comfortable I've come to think of them as moon boots and just embrace the shape for the variety it adds to my shoe collection.

Viv Chen's avatar

ok so its not just me!!! they are indeed very comfortable and the leather is sumptous.

wow the colors - from banana yellow to rich burgundy - are so good. love this info and wide calf inclusivity :) i only wear flat or super low heeled boots now so i'm on the hunt for a pair with some good structure w/ a touch of slouch + wide calf + wide toe box (does this even exist??). will be using this color palette for inspo!

Viv Iโ€™m late to the party but itโ€™s so so special for you to include wide calf boots on here! Iโ€™m going to look into the Duoโ€™s they look so good

Iโ€™m after some taller boots for fall/winter, on my radar: vagabond dorah, miista yumi, jil sander riding boots! Iโ€™m short & shouldnโ€™t get all three ๐Ÿ’ธ

I just bought a great pair of boots that fit my 15โ€ calves: https://shop-eu.flylondon.com/collections/women/products/dk-brown-over-the-knee-boots-rint346fly-fly-london

Tried them on in person and they are fantastic. The fit is snug but they will stretch with time, and I wanted them for dresses and skirts. Went with the brown. Iโ€™m 5โ€™ 3โ€ for reference.

iโ€™ve spent the last 5 years in a pair of miistaโ€™s oliana boots though they are now desperately in need of repair. earlier this year i picked up jeffrey campbell shoreditch boots which i also love and recommend for the buckle-lovers among us!

Thank you for including wide calves! Iโ€™m relatively new to the club so itโ€™s tricky to figure out!

They are bonkers expensive, but I found a used pair of zip up Guidi boots and they will last me the rest of my life. So comfortable and amazing.

I wrote about the Vince Camuto Sangeti boots last year (?) because they looked like all of the answers to my boot-shaped prayers when I saw them online. I always prefer to try shoes in person if possible, so I found them at a department store and was shocked by how awful the quality was IRL! Multiple pairs had frayed stitching, discoloration, and ragged edges. Very curious if anyone here actually has a pair, and how they feel about them. I haven't seen anything I like as much style wise, but they did not seem like they'd hold up in NYC.

Viv Chen's avatar

thatโ€™s disappointing! which department store was it?

Alex's avatar

I was so bummed! I went to the Macyโ€™s flagship in NYC, so not an off-price or overstock situation
