Does it count as pop culture if it’s Rachel Seville Tashjian on substack weighing in on the CeCe Jewelry Reddit scandal…?
*I am transfixed by the saga of this $10,000 custom pig ring gone wrong. The pig, many commenters concur, is too thin, its skin not the desired "vibrant pale Barbie pink".
.... "That pig has a whole different vibe than the
rendering." Others argue we regular joes/jills can't recognize the difficulty of champleve enamel technique but nonetheless the buyer stands firm: "the problems with this pig are just too many."*
Travis Kelce, just casually wearing a Victorian belt buckle locket while out and about. I'm not even remotely part of the Swiftie universe, but I do appreciate respect for repoussé.
I liked Dakota Johnson’s silver ring in Materialists - the puffy silver heart charms dangling from the simple band. Apparently the costume designer thrifted it. I just found out that A24 is selling a replica of it, made by J.Hannah🤯
I really enjoyed the costuming in Apple TV's Murderbot, and one of my favorite touches was astrophysicist and amateur jeweler Ratthi's chunky necklace and cuff in the first episode
There's a surprising amount of jewelry in the show!
Not quite jewelry but jelwelry adjacent is the main characters armour which was designed to look "like a cross between a Coach bag and an oven" per the concept artist
I’ll have to be a bit patriotic here and say that Rosalía’s locket moment was very iconic! All of that video, really, but that really stood out and made me want to get a wee locket for myself!
The Louvre heist is absolutely my favourite, not only because of the jewels themselves and the drama and the fact it could have been pulled from the 1950s, but because it came to light in the aftermath that the password to the museum's video surveillance system was, apparently... Louvre.
The most obvious jewelry pop culture moment was Taylor Swift's engagement!
One I'd like to put forth myself is the movie "Sentimental Value." Don't think this movie is out for wide release yet but I absolutely loved this movie and the scandinavian fashion in it. The main character wore very simple silver jewelry that was also very functional in that it seems to go with anything!
The Rosalía lyric “La cruz mi en pecho calibra mi cuerpo” from “De Madrugá” on LUX! (The cross on my chest calibrates my body). I imagine about a lovely baroque cross necklace every time.
I loved the article on the costuming of Frankenstein and how you can see the influence of Louis Comfort Tiffany in Mia Goth’s jewelry (also had to look up favrile glass). I don’t know if I’m allowed to repeat one of your pop culture jewelry moments but it definitely sent me down an etsy/ebay rabbit hole.
I have also been enjoying the ubiquity of the extremely trendy stone bead necklaces that everyone is hawking (and collaborating on!) that are also so readily available on etsy for much better prices 😎
Also not a swiftie at all, but Taylor Swift engagement ring (amongst so many other pop stars that have gotten engaged this year) is such an interesting pop culture moment as someone not engaged or married, but have long loved an elongated cushion diamond!!! So many things to say about the economics like the price of gold going up since her engagement and this happening while millennials continue the conversation on the lab grown vs natural diamond. But from solely a jewelry perspective, Kindred’s work is truly breathtaking !!! Was so cool to see at the Sotheby’s exhibition in person last week

i just re-read this story because you reminded me it existed. reddit scandals make for JUICY stories
The Louvre heist was my winner but Ozempig is a very close second!
I’ve been thinking about Zendaya’s wedding ring ever since I first saw it!
the east-west setting <3
Jeremy O. Harris' beautifully enameled portrait ring at the Met Gala! I've never seen anything like it, it's an amazing piece of craftsmanship and the perfect choice for a night celebrating Black Dandyism https://www.townandcountrymag.com/style/jewelry-and-watches/a64665504/jeremy-o-harris-met-gala-ring-2025/
oooo yes! i loved the vertical shape of the portrait.

such a beautiful detail!

yessssss!
I can’t really think of any jewelry pop culture moments, all I can think about is how much I want (nay, need) the new york coffee cup charm!!!
sometimes catbird really nails a city pride charm! for their sf store launch, they had a cable car and sourdough hehe
Oooh how fun! I love a niche charm

oof yes, tswift's influence on trends is WILD.
Seeing the labubu trend go so far as labubus being cast in solid gold... truly a sign of 2025 imo
TRUE
I still don’t go a day without thinking about the insane Cartier rosary in The Phoenician Scheme
the pinks and greens :)
