Your tailor is a gem! Love the final creation and it sounded like the process was a lot of fun.

the first section of this made me want to tear up! happy birthday, viv 🤍 what a beautiful dress and writeup – I would love to see more process breakdowns if you do decide to make something again.

thank you so much! i got teary eyed writing the first part as well and re-watching clips of the movie :’)

i will think about more process breakdowns to share…having a reliable tailor is such a game changer!

wow, this is so amazing! I've prepared to try Y2K style. It could be a new thing.

oh my GOD this is amazing. I've dabbled in getting hems taken up and darts taken in, but you and your tailor effectively redesigned that dress into perfect y2k sprite material, the work on the neckline is incredible and the entire effect channels Molly beautifully - you nailed it. Happy birthday!

(also huge props for knowing the diff between applique and embroidery, which the Vogue article - Vogue! - did not)

re: Halloween costumes, I actually wear one as part of my regular wardrobe, it's a shirt that's 100 percent cotton +wearable as a legit piece of clothing and it's also the most-complimented top I own, always from people who don't realise it's the costume of Eleven from Stranger Things.

thank you lily!

re: the vogue article, i also caught that they spelled it "bluemarine" the second time...

I dressed as Molly Gunn for Halloween two years ago - in her first day of afterschool pick up outfit. Loved this piece 🖤

I love the beaded and the bottom of the dress in flare napkin uneven ware. I like dress 8 the pink but would alter to spaghetti straps and drop the back like #10 in fact lower it more to the nape of the back making it flirty and sexy walking away. The front is saying hello. More dresses that are beaded like Roses dresses from the Titanic but adjust and alter. My daughter wore a strapless beaded dress like the one Rose wore running out of dinner and running to the end of the boat to jump.

I will never be over this incredible recreation! Happy Belated Birthday!

happy birthday fellow scorp! i feel so inspired by your party dress journey, i beat myself up all the time for not having technical skills to alter & make my own clothing, and while that would be empowering, this was the reminder i needed that there's nothing like a creative collaboration - and in the endless bounty of joann's.

i also have my 30th birthday coming up (on halloween!) and i got my green card in my 29th year, so i'm hosting a halloween party and the theme is dress as your favourite canadian, lol. i'm doing shania in the man! i feel like a woman music video <3

What a satisfying journey with a fabulous conclusion! Time for a rewatch of this flick. Also, not me already having my eye on that ICE dress you linked lol. I went for it! 🦄

I love this!

I was Log Lady (and my bf was my log) at a party with friends this weekend, and this week at work I'm going as Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls for a group costume with two other coworkers.

truly so obsessed with this!!! i think about molly’s outfits in this movie so much 😭 i remember watching the special features segment on the costumes and i was just in love with all of the pieces, and in awe of the costume designer making so many of the pieces so custom for brittany murphy

me too, every outfit in the movie was so memorable and brittany murphy brought such an infectious charm as well
