For the past few weeks, I’ve avoided looking at the profile view of my hair in the mirror. The hair on the back of my scalp grows like a chia pet and it’s outpaced the length on the sides, creating a strange neither-here-nor-there look. A note on permed hair: the sides of your head you sleep on (the back, the side if you prefer one side) are going to flatten at a faster rate than the rest of the hair. Overall, my hair is looking a little torched these days. Every day, I need a little more product and more scrunching to get my hair looking the way I like it.

I’ve been getting the same haircut for a while now, a french bob with bangs. I love it, but I also love novelty. For my next cut, I’ll get the back cleaned up but I also want to start thinking about a gradual hair change.
It’s like this: I know a bob and bangs work for me, and I feel a personal attachment to it. But if I don’t try other hairstyles, how will I know what else could also work for me, or suit me equally well?
Here’s what I’m thinking my next hair transformation will be:
