Looking at art — it reminds me of the colors, the shapes, the details that actually entice me, vs the noise of social media. Brings me back to my core visuals !!!!
The older I get, the more I think about my location as a grounding source of inspiration. Both in practical ways (fisherman sweaters make sense in Maine) and aesthetic ways (certain hues remind me of the colors that surround me seasonally). I like dressing towards nature to a certain extent.
Weirdly, studying Montessori philosophy to become a teacher was a major fashion inspiration. There's a lot of emphasis on "spiritual preparation" to enter the room that is made for a child's terms: to move as independently as possible. We mostly teach through modeling. So, I started assembling outfits with larger silhouettes with more drape in cozier fabrics like sweater knit pants so I could move freely and feel soft, in solid, deep colors that wouldn't lead to overstimulation. Maybe my way of tapping into my inner child is through the children I hold community with who keep me curious and playful and purposeful. (Edit: I was so high on a sleepy edible when I wrote this, but on revisiting sober, I stand by it)
Deleting all the shopping apps (depop, Poshmark) and closing all my "wishlist" shopping tabs which gives me more incentive to work with what I already own and maybe rediscover something buried that I used to love/forgot about!
Inner child dressing is the best—you've really nailed it, Viv! I loved bright colors growing up and I've found myself straying from them in adulthood, but I'm making my way back :)
im a medical student, i alternate between wearing formal wear and scrubs during rotations. i like trying to incorporate informal pieces into formal professional wear and I am constantly pushing the envelope of acceptability in professional wear. this has dipped into my own personal wear too
been realising lately that my style often is refracted into a few key characters or identities, which is why I have a lot of more feminine aspect-ed clothing which feels best when interspersed with some yum tailoring eg lovely slip dresses worn over wool trousers (one of the main ways I’m resorting to inject colour into the layers necessitated by Scottish winter!) 🧦
Inner child dressingfor sure! I’ve been spending some time recently looking at old pics from my childhood and seeing how my little face lights up in photos, when I’ve been dressed in a frilly dress or my favourite colours. I always try to dress with a pop of something that’s so intrinsic to my roots, even something subtle! Helps me channel a little bit of whimsy everyday. Also reminding myself of my ‘three words’ which really haven’t changed at all. Artsy, workwear and layered are mine and it helps to have something to ground me when I feel lost 🤍
Oh this is so inspiring and cute! I love how much we can see your inner child expressed in your photographs. The pops of red are delightful on you. I also heavily agree on the arm tattoo front — all mine are on my upper arms so I love when I get to wear tank tops!
Love these tips especially frequent the last one - if it feels good it feels good. Growing up I loved a matching set so anything that plays with that idea, matching patterns or even matching oversized shapes make me feel youthful! 🥰
For me, sometimes if I get lost in the noise, I throw on my rings/jewelry that makes me happiest to wear. Then I start from there and go for something green in my closet. My favorite color. My go-to color. Green pant or green shirt? Green pant & green shirt? Green top brown bottom (what I call going tree mode) is such a nice neutral reset for me. Then I can throw on a coat, a jacket, a blazer, what the heck ever. I know I'm the most me in something green.

I also did this around the new year! This helps me stay motivated to keep finding new inspiration within my own closet.
yellow and green is a combination I keep turning back to when I need a boost of childhood whimsy!
The Clyde bonnet hat pulled everything together so well. You make everything look better!
practicality and comfort always win for me at the end of the day. i've managed to weave my PS (although it is constantly evolving!) to this ethos

returning to my closet staples which are usually the comfiest loosest items always feels like a pressure release valve
Knowing when it’s time to step away from Pinterest and social media is my first (and the hardest) step to hone in on my personal style lol
