Based off a solely aesthetic rubric, Valentine’s Day is my second favorite holiday after Halloween. I loved making elaborate valentines hearts with bits and bobs from Joann’s, the tension of seeing who got sent anonymous roses in high school, and seeing stores decked out in bursts of red and pink. As an adult, I embrace it as campy saccharine holiday.
Here’s my curated roundup of gifts that will impress your valentine, or as a treat to yourself.
Molly J Sampler: the best pure CBD gumdrops. They’re handmade and you can taste the quality. They have unique flavors you can’t find at a standard dispensary: hibiscus acai, pink champagne, and pink lemonade. —$15
Bagtazo Ecolier Beret: Coco is a talented milliner making sculptural hats with a subversive dandy feel. My Bagtazo hat is a prized item in my closet and always add something special to an otherwise simple outfit. It’s hard to believe there was a time when everyone wore hats outside. Unfortunately, millinery is a dying craft as we move towards a hat-less society, but I believe there will always be people who value the beauty of a nice hat. —$70
Tekla Pillowcases: Because no one wants to buy pillowcases but everyone loves a cute matching set. My colorway pick is the Anholt Stripe, a pleasing brown and pink combo that reminds me of a chocolate bon bon with berry ganache filling. —$35 each
Mondo Mondo Super Heart Necklace: MM is a perennial jewelry fav of mine, and their selection right now is full of heart shaped gems and pendants. This necklace is a glittery confection. —$295
Fujifilm QuickSnap Disposable Camera: Perfect for someone who wants to be a #35mm #film hoe but doesn’t want to spring for a fancy camera or commit to the learning curve. These disposables are so fun to carry around, each one gets you 37 photos so use them wisely! You can find these at any of the online big box retailers. —$20
Sonny Angel lucky figurine: I recently got one at a toy/stationary store near my local Ranch99, along with some My Melody socks. The fun of Sonny Angels is that they are a mystery toy, so you don’t know what design you’ll get until you open it. They are cute for displaying on your nightstand or soapdish. If anyone gets the elusive toy poodle and wants to trade for the rhino….DM me. —$10
Le Labo Hinoki Shower Gel: I tried this recently at someone’s house and it smelled really good. It put me in a good mood. I’m a bar soap loyalist with eczema prone skin so shower gel is a bit risky for me but I hope it’s a good purchase for you. —$34
Le Classique Foiled Notebook: A beautiful notebook just makes me want to write. With a notebook gift, the romance is in the details: the carnelian red, the foiled design, the bookmark ribbon. Hardcover, so it’s kept forever in a bookshelf. —$36
